Violinist Marcos del Risco surprises Dominican’s Got Talent jury from Cuba

The young man received a ‘yes’ from the jury to officially enter the television contest.

The young and talented Cuban violinist Marcos del Risco surprised the jury of Dominicana’s Got Talent with an incredible virtual audition from Havana and became the first Cuban to participate in the Caribbean contest.

The 23-year-old musician shocked the four judges with an incredible version of the song Rockstar, by rapper DaBaby, which was on the Billboard charts a few months ago and which allowed him to show the skill with which he handles the violin.

Marcos described his audition on the show as “a great opportunity because it is the most important stage we Caribbean people have to show our talent to the world.”

“It has always been a dream for me to participate in an international Got Talent,” the violinist told CiberCuba.

For Marcos it was a dream that, although he wanted very much, seemed far away, since one of the requirements to participate is to be a citizen or resident of the host country of the talent show.

“Last year I followed the first edition of the Dominican’s Got Talent contest from home on YouTube and something inside me said: ‘you have to be there’. I began to follow the page of the contest and to find out what were the steps to follow to audition,” Marcos told this portal.

Finally, he managed to sign up for and take part in an open audition last May, organized by the show’s production, with more than 8,000 participants, to select those who would go on to the show’s live auditions.

“A few months later the production contacts me and congratulates me because I was selected to participate in the live auditions. I explained my situation to them and they were sensitized about it and made an exception and gave me the opportunity to participate from Cuba through a zoom call,” he recounted.

“I don’t know if I was more nervous about the presentation or the stability of the 4G,” he joked.

Now, Marcos has the opportunity to participate in the semifinals of Dominicana’s Got Talent in a few weeks, but it is no longer possible to continue virtually, but in person, and he hopes to get a visa that will allow him to perform on stage with the rest of the contestants.

Marcos has been studying violin since he was 8 years old and a year ago he finished his degree in Music at the Higher Institute of Arts in Havana.

He has played with orchestras such as the Lyceum Mozartiano de La Habana, but after graduating he has focused on furthering his career as a soloist.

Although he is passionate about classical music, he defends popular music and the fusion of electronic violin with more current rhythms, which allow him to reach new generations, which is why he also uses lights and decorative elements that make his presentations more enjoyable and dynamic.

He became known in the networks after performing Bajanda, the multiversioned theme of the Cuban reguetonero Chocolate MC, with pure electric violin.
